Quy Fen plant walk Tues 29 August at 6.30pm

Join Fenland botanist Jonathan Graham and Pete Case from Freshwater Habitats Trust to learn more about why Quy Fen is such a special site for wetland plants.

Meet at Horningsea-Clayhithe road layby (just north of the village of Horningsea) postcode CB25 9JD at 6:30pm for a guided walk around the site lasting approx. 2 hrs.

29th & 30th July – 11 – 16.30

Exhibitions on Saturday & Sunday 11 – 4.30 will include works by :-
Janet Hathiramani; Frank Hopkirk; Ann Mitchell; Bill Parker; Tessa Pleasants; Jim Smith; Carol Yarrow

Saturday 29th:
7:30pm Concert ‘Musical landscapes’
given by Quintus (recorder, flutes, cello, keyboard)
with readings by members of the Horningsea Mechanicals
Pre-concert refreshments will be available from 6:30pm Retiring collection in aid of church funds

Sunday 30th:
In the afternoon there will be some background recorder duet music.

Exhibitions on Saturday & Sunday 11 – 4.30 will include:-
Brenda Phillips – textiles; Deb Wade – quilting; Cath Martin – pottery; Sue Roberts – pottery; Kate – sculptures/images of installations; Richard Tannenbaum – Sculptures; John Garland – sculptures; Carolyn –– leather work; Natalie – jewellery; Work by Bill Parker’s Art group

Saturday 22nd: 12 – 2.30pm: Literary Lunch
Ploughman’s Lunch – Talks and readings by Trevor Thorne “The Cross & The Cosmos”; Fran Smith “The Power of Cake: Further letters from Sister B”; Colin Shaw “Cloudburst III”

Come and have a ploughman’s lunch and hear local Poets and Novelists talk about their work. Colin Shaw from Fen Ditton, poet and editor of Cloudburst III, Trevor Thorne from Waterbeach, poet who publishes under the title The Cosmos and the Cross and Fran Smith (Fran Johnson) of Clayhithe whose second novel about the comings and goings of Sister B is published this month. You will be able to purchase signed copies of the various publications. There are no tickets for this event but donations please to pay for the lunch!

Sunday 23rd: 10am: Art & Christianity Service
led by Canon Ben Quash, Professor of Art & Christianity at Kings College London.

Ben is Professor of Art & Christianity at Kings College London. You may have heard him on Radio 4 talking about the theatre in the days of David Garrick and read his articles about the theatre and the church over the centuries.

Refreshments available all weekend. There is no charge but donations are requested for the Ploughman’s lunch

Horningsea Herald July 2017

Here’s July’s Herald.

July is generally a busy month and guess what…!

– It’s Village Day tomorrow (1st July). As last year there’ll be the Stomp Happy Ceilidh band, so bring your dancing shoes.

– Then the following weekend it’s the Horningsea Horticultural Show.

– It does not stop then though as there’s two weekends of music, art and more at the church.

Friends of Horningsea Church – Report on the AGM

The Friends’ Annual General Meeting was held in the church on 11 June 2017.

John Rooke continues as Chairman and Michael Harrison as Treasurer for another year. The Friends are looking for a couple more volunteers! Would you be able to take on the task of Secretary? This is not onerous as the Friends only have a formal meeting once a year so you would need to keep the minutes and draft the agenda.

The two projects the Friends will support this year will be the printing of a new edition of the Guide to Horningsea Church and some work to the Bailey stained glass window. The Guide was published about 20 years ago and we have run out of copies. It needs updating. We need to find someone to do the updating and then a printer. If you know anyone who would be interested in getting involved in the project or if you know anyone who might like to help please contact ldathorningsea @ gmail.com.
