Heritage Open Day Sat 9 Sept 2017 – Free event

At St Peter’s church, Horningsea
Victorian Horningsea

This ancient church was heavily made over by “trendy” Victorian architect Thomas Jekyll, a friend of Whistler and Pugin. He lifted the roof, designed the gates and made the choir pews with individual carvings of wild flowers. Come and see his work and an exhibition of his drawings. See “before” and “after” photographs of the Church in the 1880’s.

From 10am until midday: Have a go at  bellringing.
This is your chance if you always wondered what it feels like to ring a bell!

Between 2 and 4pm there will be short talks on:
Farming in Victorian Horningsea,
A Good Victorian read,
Jekyll’s Flower carvings in Horningsea Church and
The Coprolite industry in Fen Ditton and Horningsea

Bring along your own Victoriana and please feel free to dress up!

Refreshments served all day

HRA Apple Press Day

Saturday, 30th September, 13:00-17:00, village green

HRA logo

It’s the eighth annual Horningsea Apple Press on Saturday the 30th of September at 13:00.
Bring your own apples from the garden, some empty bottles (and just a bit of elbow grease!) and take your self-pressed apple juice home with you. As with previous years all apples will be placed in a communal pile for pressing.

On the morning of the Village Apple Pressing day we’ll trawl public apple trees in the village to start the “communal apple bucket”. If you fancy doing some scrumping, whether for the community pile or for yourself, then meet on the village green at 10:00. We’ll finish at 12:00 with the main event starting at 13:00.
Email hra.events@gmail.com or ring Chris on 07739 578 612 for details.

As last year The Crown and Punchbowl will be supplying BBQ’ed yummy sausage sandwiches for all apple pressers!
