St Peter’s Church services during January

  • Sunday 7th January – the church will celebrate The Epiphany – the visit of the Wise Men to Bethlehem, following the star. This is a chance to sing the Epiphany carols, so if you are missing carol singing, this could be another chance to sing!
  • Sunday 14 January – instead of the usual 16.00 service we are lucky to be able to go to The Fitzwilliam with Ben Quash at 15.00 – places are limited so email Nick.moir@3parishes.org if you would like to join the expedition. Ben is Professor of Christianity and the Arts at Kings College London. He will be showing us a number of Epiphany paintings. It should be a fascinating afternoon.
  • Sunday 21 January 10.30 Holy Communion at Horningsea

The joint service on 28th January will be in Teversham.

Thank you from St Peter’s Church

Thank you to everyone who helped prepare the church for the Carol Service and other Christmas services – and for taking part, singing, playing, reading, dressing up at the Nativity, and coming as part of the congregation to all the services. If you enjoyed the services and would like to help put the candles etc. away, why not come along on Saturday 6th January at 10.30 for an hour or so. We will probably have another tidying and clearing session on Saturday 13th January too!

For the last few years the village has joined in decorating the windows in their houses for Advent. From the 1st December you can walk around the village and spot the window for each day. Please do not post photos of that day’s window before the end of the day on Facebook. However, you are encouraged to post them afterwards!

Horningsea Young Persons Orchestra at the Candlelit Carol service

The Horningsea Young Person’s Orchestra will be performing a piece at the Carol service on the 10th of December at 18:00. They will be performing a special Horningsea arrangement of Leopold Mozart’s Musical Sleigh Ride from his Divertimento in F Major. As this includes some percussion (such as bells and theoretically even a whip!) it can be played by people with very little or no musical experience, so everyone who’d like to be involved can be included.
Rehearsals will be on the 2/3rd of December and also during the day before the Carol Service on the 10th.

As the nights get longer, Horningsea becomes busier in November.

This Sunday (for once on the 5th!) sees the very popular Horningsea Fireworks and Bonfire.

Then there’s A Time To Remember on Saturday 4th November, and Remembrance Sunday service and wreath laying on the 12th November. You do not have to attend church but can just come to the War Memorial in the Jubilee Gardens at 10:45 for the two minute silence, the Last Post and the laying of the wreaths.

You can read about The Fallen of Horningsea (this is a work in progress and much more information is still to be added).
