Horningsea Cycle Ride 29/4/12

A big thank you to all those of you who actually turned up in the pouring rain and rode with us. There were 13 of us at the final count (including Reuben 18 months!).
HH 2012 05

The rain actually stopped after a while and we splashed merrily through puddles etc until we finally arrived at the Milton Country Park café where hot drinks and cakes were the preferred choices.

Baits Bite Lock bridge proved much less of an obstacle than I had feared, due largely to the high-speed cycle removals initiative featuring (among others) Chris and Peter who seemed to have whisked my trike, spares, tools, first-aid kit, etc., across the bridge while I was busy helping someone else, and deposited it neatly on the other side facing the right way!

The marshals worked brilliantly, overseeing and directing the riders safely without any fuss and I am really grateful to all of them for their support and efforts that helped to make the ride safe and fun despite the weather.

As to the riders themselves – what more can I say than a huge thank you to all of you, for actually turning up in the pouring rain and making the whole event such a success.

The final icing on the cake, was a huge pot of French Onion soup that was awaiting us on our return to the Plough and Fleece courtesy of Tom Canning, the chef. It was a kind and much appreciated gesture and was warmly welcomed by all of us.

To those of you who couldn`t make it for various reasons, you missed a real blinder of a day! There will be other rides and I hope you will be able to join us then.

See you all then I hope!

Bert Santilly.

HRA Childrens Playground: Help needed for restorative work

The children’s playground is maintained by the HRA for use by all.HRA logo

Unfortunately the playground is not in a great state of repair. Graham did some excellent restorative work last year, but a recent ROSPA report has pointed out some areas which need urgent attention.

On Saturday the 28th of April we’re asking for strong arms to come and help with some urgent work on the swings.

We’ll be there from 10:30am. So please come along and help your village.

HORNINGSEA VILLAGE CYCLE RIDE

Sunday 29th April 2012

HRA logo

Dear Friends,

HRA would love to invite you to join us for our cycle ride. This is our first event of this type and is suitable for young and old alike!

The total distance is only 7 miles and is broken into two sections with a refreshment break/play area planned in, just over half way round.

We aim to ride at a slow pace (suitable for the youngsters) starting at 10.30am from the Plough and Fleece car park and there will be front and back marshals (as well as roving ones!) to help you safely on your way round.

Our ride will take us from the Plough and Fleece, north up the High Street and Clayhithe Road to the parking area opposite the Bridge Hotel, just after Clayhithe bridge; then south along the river path and on to Milton Country Park. After a short break we will return via Baits Bite Lock along the track past Biggin Abbey and back to the road where we can follow the Horningsea Cycle Path north again, finishing our ride at the Plough and Fleece where you can buy soup and a roll or order a full Sunday lunch if you want. (To order a full Sunday lunch, please let Ro know in advance on 01223 860795).

Safety is paramount to the enjoyment of our ride and we are very fortunate to have the support of P.C. John Coppard and Rob Turner of Ben Hayward Cycles who has offered us a demo/talk on cycle maintenance. This will take place on April 1st which will give everyone ample time to tune up their bikes or take them in to Ben Haywards shop at Notcutts, where they can be professionally serviced; this will include a special discount of 10% on any parts used in the service.

If you would like to come on the ride and to the cycle maintenance demo/talk on April 1st, please download the flyer and complete the slip and return it to Bert Santilly by Monday 26th March because we will need to know numbers..

We really hope you will be able to join us and look forward to hearing from you

Bert Santilly
