HRA has once again risen to the occasion by organising yet another very successful Village Day.
John Wilson with the committee arranged a very varied programme with something for everyone’s enjoyment. A musical organ played all afternoon and a long colourful bunting on the village hall fave an air of festivity setting the scene for the day.
Mary and James, the new tenants of the Plough and Fleece, provided a popular and successful bar tent, and it was Mary who announced the Village Day open.
There was so much to see and do from a traction engine that chugged away all day, to interesting vintage cars, motorbikes and tractors. The very popular bounce castle gave the children hours of excitement. We also had a steam engine which gave much enjoyment to children and adults alike as they rode around the green.
The bottle stall coconut shy and static bike racing were all equally popular and added to the enjoyment of the afternoon in their different ways.

We had a dog show, which was judged by Jan Tomlinson.
The proud winner was Ralph, a proud Doberman. He had strong competition from the many dogs entered and Jan had her work cut out to eventually make a choice.
There were children’s races and a tug of War, which nearly had to be cancelled due to heavy rain. But the Horningsea spirit phone through and instead of drifting home villagers retreated to the village hall where Mary Briggs and Vee were serving homemade cakes and tea.
Richard Pleasants was a humorous and fun commentator throughout the afternoon and as the day turned into evening the scene began to change. Once again due to numerous individuals hard work the preparations begin for a BBQ, dancing in the hall and a magnificent beacon.
There are so many people who give so much of their time to make HRA events like this go with a swing. So a big collective thank you goes to them all for without their commitment events like this would just not take place and Horningsea would not be the village we all enjoy living in.
