Horningsea Herald July 2018

Here’s July’s Horningsea Herald.

Well the summer has really turned out nice! The editorial team told you it would be sunny!

Here’s July’s events. Starting with Village Day on the 7th, and the Horticultural Show on the 14th. Both highlights on the Horningsea social calendar.

There’s two extraordinary Horningsea Parish Council meetings coming up about the Waterbeach New Town development. On the 4th July RLW will present their planning application and on the 1st August Urban & Civic will present modifications they have made to their planning application.

Please do attend. These developments have the potential to significantly change our area, both short term with construction (20+years) traffic and longterm traffic from the 11,000 houses.

Open Gardens in Horningsea

Sunday 29th July 13.00-18.00
About a dozen gardens in the village will be open on Sunday 29th July. This is organised by the Friends of Horningsea Church to raise funds to pay towards the restoration of some windows, including the Bailey stained glass window. Please park at Horningsea Village Hall. Programmes/passports for the Gardens will be on sale at the Village Green, (£5 per person), this will include a map of the gardens that are open and a short description of each garden. They vary from old fashioned Cottage gardens, vegetable gardens and allotments, through to more formal gardens. You will recognise the open gardens as they will be marked by a bunch of colourful balloons! Refreshments will be available all afternoon in the Church. There will be music in some of the gardens during the afternoon. The event will conclude with madrigals on the riverbank (see attached flyer), at Church End House, just below the Church at 18.15. Bring a picnic, chairs or a rug. Pimms will be provided. There will be a collection. If it is raining the madrigals and picnic will take place in the church.

HRA Village Day 2018

LATE EDIT… Due to England’s new found love of penalties, there will be a big screen from 15:00!

HRA logo

The HRA are excited to invite you to this year’s Village Day on Saturday 7th July from 15:00. It’s a great opportunity to meet and catch up with other villagers and families in a relaxed setting. Bring a picnic, something to barbecue, your families, your family dog if you have one and come and join in the fun on the Village Green.

The music from the last few years events have been great fun. So much so that this year we have two great bands to keep you entertained all afternoon and into the evening!

Headlining this year are The Shipsters – a cutting edge Ceilidh band who will have everybody dancing. They will play two sets during the evening.

During the day the Panic Community Steel Band will be playing two 30 minutes sets (Facebook page). There will be opportunities for everybody to have a go at playing too.

Other attractions include a bouncy slide for the younger villagers and there will also be a Dog show.

Towards the end of the afternoon we will be lighting the Barbecue for you to cook your own food.

  • 15:00 Village Day Opening – Village Teas, Bouncy Slide, Dog Show, Picnic, Ale
  • All Steel band – 1st set
