At St Peter’s Church Horningsea:

Love Your Burial Ground/Churches Count on Nature Week: 5 – 13 June 2021

Join in with the Friends of Horningsea Church and take part in the national “Churches Count on Nature” week. The idea is to see how much wildlife we can find in our churchyard.

The national organisers have described churchyards as part of the largest “National Park” in the country. If you have an odd half hour at any time during the week from Saturday 5 to Sunday 13 June please go along to the Church and collect a “log sheet” from the porch to record what you can see.

You can look for birds, insects (ants? spiders? bees/ butterflies? moths?), flowers, fungi, mammals (hedgehogs? foxes? bats?). Try going at different times of day as it will be interesting to see what can be found early in the morning or late at night. In the porch you will find some I-Spy books and leaflets to help identify what you find.

On Sunday 13 June from 2pm:
An afternoon exploring the churchyard together, hopefully with a Zoology student to help identify the species we see. Botanists, birdwatchers … are all encouraged to come along. We hope to restart the Bug Hotel building – perhaps some bugs have taken residence in the wood we left in the churchyard 18 months ago.

At the moment singing in church is not permitted. However, each service will include an opportunity to sing the final hymn outside.

Church Annual Meeting: Wed 19 May at 7.30pm in the Church

You are invited to come along to St Peter’s Church for the Annual meeting. We will
have a short report on the last year, a financial report and plans for the future.

If you are interested in what might happen to the church, if you are on the Electoral Roll or even if you are not – do come along and let us know what you would like to see happening at the Church.

Thank you and farewell to Rev Diana Johnson
Sunday 9 May, 10:30am at St Peters Church, Horningsea

St Peter’s Church says “Thank you and farewell” to Reverend Diana
Johnson who has been helping out since December. She is moving to a parish in
Northumberland and we wish her well. We have enjoyed her enthusiasm and
particularly her willingness to hold services outdoors – Mothering Sunday, Good Friday
and Easter Day at sunrise on the river bank. She has reminded us that we do not
always need to be inside our lovely church when we worship.

Her last Sunday in Horningsea will be 9th May at 10.30am – if you would like to bring a picnic we can sit in our own household bubbles suitably distanced in the churchyard to say farewell after the service.

We hope that the Diocese will find us another priest to help out while the process of
appointing a full time replacement priest for the three parishes progresses.

As lockdown restrictions lift the churches will be opening up, so we look forward to
welcoming everyone back to “live” services in May and June.
