Warm-up for Horningsea 800 on Sunday 22 September (pm)
A warm-up to the Horningsea 800 celebrations:
Come and explore the history of farming in Horningsea –
Find out what the Domesday Book said about farming here, read the Leys School record of farming in the 1950’s, look at the photographs of farming in the early years of the 20th century, read about harvest, haystack arson, farming triumphs and disasters in the Horningsea Chronicles.
Chat to those who have grown up in the village and remember the horses and carts and the days when farm hands lived in all the cottages.
Bring along any photographs or memorabilia and join in over a cup of tea – all welcome!
This is a taster for a series of events to celebrate the church’s 800 centenary, and to launch an appeal for updating our slightly medieval social facilities.

HRA Apple Pressing Day
The fourth Apple Pressing day will take place on the Saturday, 28th of September 2013 outside the village hall.
Bring your own apples from the garden, some empty bottles (and just a bit of elbow grease!) and take your self-pressed apple juice home with you. As with last year’s event villagers apples will be placed in a communal pile for pressing. You can press just your own fruit but the previous three events have been very popular and you might have to wait.
On the morning of the Village Apple Pressing day we’ll trawl public apple trees in the village to start the “communal apple bucket”. If you fancy doing some picking, whether for the community or for yourself, then meet on the village green at 10:00. We’ll finish at 12:00 with the main event starting at 13:00.
Also we will be having an Apple Pie Contest again which is open to everyone. There is a prize for the best one and you may win the coveted Wooden Spoon!!
Email hra.events@gmail.com or ring Chris on 07739 578 612 for details.
