Summary and latest status of speed reducing measures considered for Horningsea

by Horningsea Parish Council
The Parish Council is very concerned about the number and nature of recent road accidents in the village. It continues to discuss different ways to make our road safer, including revisiting ideas that have previously been dismissed. The Parish Council has collated a summary of the various traffic calming measures considered over the years, including the reasons for/ against implementing them based upon advice given by Highways and/ or Police. It can be read here (link).
One measure that has been successful in increasing awareness of our 30mph limit and slowing vehicles down is Community Speedwatch. The Parish Council would like to start this up again but we NEED VOLUNTEERS!! If you’re interesting in finding out more please email clerk@horningsea.net and/ or come to the Annual Parish Meeting at 19.30 on Wed 24th April in the Village Hall.

Speeding Measures Summary

If you have any comments or suggestions on these or other measures to reduce speeding in Horningsea – or would like to volunteer to join the Speedwatch team – please email Horningsea Parish Council on clerk@horningsea.net.

Horningsea Annual Parish Meeting – 2019

All villagers welcome at Horningsea APM – Wednesday 24th April 19.30

The Annual Assembly of the Parish (usually called the Annual Parish Meeting) is organised by the Parish Council but is not a PC meeting – it is for all registered electors of the area. It must be held each year between 1st March and 1st June and is an opportunity to hear reports on local groups and activities such as the Residents’ Association, the Trusts, charities, school and police as well as financial and progress reports of the Council. Our District and County Councillors usually attend and it is an opportunity to ask them questions and raise issues of importance to the village (did anyone whisper “Waterbeach New Town” or “what’s happening with the A10”?).

So come along to the village hall on 24th April at 19:30; light refreshments will be provided at the end of the meeting. If you belong to a village group and you have not previously given a report do let Hayley know on: parish council’s website.

    Horningsea Herald February 2019

    Here’s February’s Herald.

Throughout the next few months people, both old and young are invited to write short story about “borders” for Horningsea’s very own short story competition. You can read about it on the village website, and download the poster and entry form.

This month’s Herald also includes 2019’s calendar of events for both the HRA and the Church.

Do remember that there’s a public calendar of Horningsea events.

You can also add it to your own calendar directly.

    Horningsea Short Story Competition

Fran Johnstone (co-ordinator of the judges)

You are invited to enter the inaugural Horningsea Short Story Competition, so grab those pens or laptops and get writing! The competition winners will be announced and the prizes awarded at a book fair in the church on Saturday, June 8th. There are separate classes for young people and adults. See the competition rules and poster sent with the Herald for full details. All entries will be judged anonymously and the judges will be a team including several published authors (several of them judges or ex-judges in real life, thanks to Lindsay Davies’ connections!).

The competition is open to everyone, but we are hoping that at least some of the prizes are carried off by Horningsea talent.
    The deadline is April 30th.

    Looking forward to being impressed.
