Horningsea Herald January 2021

Here’s January’s Horningsea Herald.

The editorial team wish you a Happy New Year, even if the year has not got off to a great start for multiple reasons.

There’s an update from the Parish Council about the speeding traffic, with a flyer and a survey for residents (see flyer below)

Fen Ditton Primary School are still looking for donations of laptops/tablets to help students with no access for remote learning.

There is also a possibility of getting voucher funding for faster internet for the village (FTTP).

Remember as well in these lockdown times if you are shielding or self isolating and need assistance with shopping then:

  • Post in the Horningsea Residents Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/HorningseaResidentsAssociation/
  • Email horningsea-assist@googlegroups.com
  • Call: Graham Haynes on 07723 472858
  • If you want to volunteer your help then email horningsea-assist@googlegroups.com.
Please ensure that your neighbours are well. A phone call can make all the difference to somebody who is alone.

Horningsea Parish Charities are again putting food in our very own food hub porch at the church. So you can go at any time to help yourself to apples, pears, oranges, carrots, cabbages or whatever else is on the table. The Trustees can be contacted on ldathorningsea @gmail.com

Look after yourselves and one another. Wear a mask, keep your distance, and if you are offered a vaccination, make sure you get it! Let’s look beyond these dark months to a warm and open summer.

    Kind regards
    The Editorial Team

    Alert – Coronavirus Vaccination Scams

Members of the public who have been sent text messages claiming to be from the NHS, offering them the opportunity to sign up for coronavirus vaccinations. The texts ask the recipient to click on a link which takes them to an online form where they are prompted to input personal and financial details. In some cases the online form has looked very similar to the real NHS website.

Pauline Smith, Head of Action Fraud, said:
“Remember, the vaccine is only available on the NHS and is free of charge. The NHS will never ask you for details about your bank account or to pay for the vaccine. If you receive an email, text message or phone call purporting to be from the NHS and you are asked to provide financial details, this is a scam.”

    How to protect yourself:

In the UK, coronavirus vaccinations will only be available via the National Health Services of England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland. You can be contacted by the NHS, your employer, a local GP surgery or pharmacy, to receive your vaccination. Remember, the vaccinations are free of charge and you will not be asked for a payment.
