Plough and Fleece Community Pub – Week One Events!

Horningsea Community Interest Company reports that it has so far received over £25,000 towards the medium-term goal of acquiring the freehold of the Plough & Fleece. What happens next?
3rd September: the CIC takes over the keys from Ro Asplin, and the entire following week sees a range of volunteer activities aimed at giving the pub a facelift and putting it in shape for the re-opening party on Saturday 8th September from 7.30pm.

A list of jobs that need doing will be posted on the main notice board of the pub and we are arranging get togethers for all those people who have already told us how they would like to help. The detailed programme is:

Tuesday 4th September
Spit and Polish: for anyone interested in joining the clean up and decorating team, meet at the pub at 11.00am and/or 7pm
Pub Quiz: anyone interested in helping to make the most of the P and F quiz night, meet at the pub at 7.30pm
Wednesday 5th September
Gardeners world: for anyone interested in gardening and outside work, meet at the pub at 11am and/or 7pm
A Question of Sport: anyone interested in the pentanque team (finalists this year!), darts, tiddleywinks, dominoes, football, cricket or simply wathcing special sports events at the pub meet at 7pm
Thursday 6th September
Arthouse: anyone interested in music, crafts, arts, theatre, poetry, film nights, festivals and anything else arty meet at the pub for 11am and/or 2pm and/or 7pm
Business Club: anyone interested in helping with marketing and business development meet at the pub at 8pm
Friday 7th September
Grub Club: anyone interested in helping in the kitchen or with waiting tables or special food events meet at 11am and/or 7pm
The IT Crowd: anyone interested in IT, the internet, websites and social media meet at 8pm
Saturday 8th September:
First Annual Pub Workday and Party: join us for a whole range of practical workgroups from 11am and or just pop in and see an exhibition of the plans that each group has made to help us through our first year as a community pub. The party proper starts at 7.30! Everyone welcome and bring your family and friends.

Please contact Tony on 07764 922385 or Mary on 07718 771944 or the P and F on 01223 860795 to volunteer for any of these activity groups.

Between now and 3 December, Horningsea CIC really needs your money! If you’re planning to invest, please don’t delay. You can make a cheque payable to Horningsea CIC and leave it at the bar of the pub, or deposit funds in the HSBC account number 40029815, sort code 40-16-59 (Cowley Road branch).

Over that same period, grant applications will be made and processed with the Big Lottery, Village SOS, Cambridgeshire Community Foundation and Cambridgeshire ACRE. We are hoping to raise through these avenues nearly half the money needed to secure the freehold.
